Emotional Freedom Techinque
What is EFT?
E.F.T (emotional freedom technique) is commonly known as 'tapping'. It brings together aspects of psychotherapy, cognitive therapy and somatic stimulation (tapping on different energy points). It's been referred to as 'psychological acupuncture' but without the needles (thank goodness!). Tapping works in the same kind of way as acupuncture by stimulating various pressure points on the face and body to relieve stress, which then alleviates many psychological based concerns.
EFT is a powerful self-applied, stress reduction technique.
HOW IT WORKS
How does EFT work in our brain?
By stimulating certain pressure points on the body with this two finger tapping technique, the amygdala (the stress centre of the brain) and the hippocampus (the brains memory centre) both work to switch off the fight or flight response.
EFT is clinically proven to reduce the production of cortisol – the stress hormone.
Clinical trials have shown that EFT is able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. It has helped people with physical pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD and other symptoms.
EFT has an immediate calming effect and can be used by children as young as 3-4 years old.
ABOUT TRAINING COURSES
EFT is simple to learn to use on yourself. To use EFT for yourself, EFT Level One courses (usually one day) provide a great way for you to get specific about how it can work for you. If you are working in the helping profession and would like to integrate EFT as part of your practise, then the EFT Practitioner training course is for you. I'm one of the lead trainers for EFT in Gloucestershire and if you would like the opportunity to train with me, please email me on and I will send you the latest dates/brochure.
